Cambridge Mathematics Direct is a structured set of maths resources for primary schools. It provides everything needed to plan, teach and assess primary mathematics, in line with the recommendations of the National Numeracy Strategy. Each year is divided into 3 strands: Numbers and the Number System, Calculations, and Measures, Shape, Space and Handling Data. CMD 2 Pupil's Textbook introduces pupils during the latter part of Year 2 to working from a textbook. It provides practice in key mathematical concepts and skills. The pages incorporate a variety of activities, including word problems, games, open-ended activities and pupil-generated work. The activities are suitable for a variety of different classroom organisational models. Pages provide differentiated work for the average, least able and most able pupils. They also show which activities require the teacher's input. Textbook is introduced to Year 2 pupils gradually during the year Provides a variety structured differentiated activities for practice of mathematical concepts Pages show where teacher input is required

Cambridge Mathematics Direct provides everything needed to plan, teach and assess primary mathematics, in line with the recommendations of the National Numeracy Strategy. The CMD Reception Handwriting Workbook provides practice in the formation of numerals. The pages are organised in a logical progression of numerals, starting with numbers 1-3. Zero and ten are introduced separately. The final pages of the book allow for practice in writing some 2-digit numbers. — Can be used in conjunction with CMD Reception Teacher's Handbooks, or separately with any maths scheme. — Gives structured practice in early number formation. — Allows pupils to work independently at their own pace, in an attractively illustrated workbook.

Cambridge Mathematics Direct provides everything needed to plan, teach and assess primary mathematics, in line with the recommendations of the National Numeracy Strategy. The National Numeracy Strategy and Early Learning Goals state clearly that for much of the Reception year a 45 minute daily maths lesson may be inappropriate. However, pupils do still need to be exposed to oral/mental activities, direct teaching, pupil activities in groups, pairs or as individuals and a plenary. In CMD we have addressed these issues, and also tried to ensure that differentiation and progression take place. The Autumn/Spring Teacher's Handbook allows for flexible organisation. A starter lesson for each week is followed by follow-up sections to dip into. The teacher can identify and use the most appropriate activities for the class. All mathematical strands are covered, with problem solving integrated throughout. Ideas for using maths displays, number rhymes and stories, and the environment are provided. The term organisation allows a flexible and structured approach to maths teaching, catering for different pupil intakes. — Clear provision for differentiation within the control of the teacher. — Focus is on whole class direct teaching, with in-built progression.

Cambridge Mathematics Direct provides everything needed to plan, teach and assess primary mathematics, in line with the recommendations of the National Numeracy Strategy. The CMD Reception Assess and Review Lesson Plans provide ideas for structuring the Assess and Review days. Two lessons are given for each half term. A suggested order is given; the lesson plans can also be used in any order, to fit in with the school's own scheme of work. The lessons focus on assessing the key objectives in a daily maths lesson context, with oral and mental starters, direct (Teacher-led) assessment, and plenary. Additional recorded activities are provided in the accompanying ‘Maths Review Workbook'. The lesson plans bring in the use of probing questions, designed to elicit information about pupils' misconceptions. — Follows the National Numeracy Strategy guidelines for the Assess and Review days. — Provides the content of all 12 Assess and Review days, in a structured and manageable format. — Linked to key objectives, so can be used independently of any maths scheme.

This book has been written for the new Cambridge International Examinations syllabus in Economics and is endorsed by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). It is divided into two main units, Core (AS) and Extension (A level), each of which represents a self-contained programme of study. As well as fully supporting the syllabus, the book equips students with the skills needed to succeed in the examinations, and describes how these skills and concepts will be examined by CIE. To help students understand the topics and prepare for the examination, the authors have included a range of stimulus material and self-assessment tasks, as well as specimen CIE question papers. Although specifically produced for CIE’s A level Economics examinations, the book will also be of value to students and teachers of other Economics syllabuses.

This book provides an accessible introduction to the linguistic structure of Russian, including its history, dialects and sociolinguistics, as well as the central issues of phonology, morphology, syntax and word formation/lexicology. It particularly emphasises the special linguistic features of Russian which are not shared with English and other non-Slavic languages. For intermediate/advanced students of Russian, this will help to reinforce their understanding of how all levels of Russian function. Students and scholars of linguistics will find it a useful starting point for comparative work involving the structure of Russian and the Slavic languages, or issues such as standardisation, multilingualism, and the fate of former colonial languages. Each chapter begins with an introduction to the basic theoretical concepts of the area covered, presenting the linguistic facts and relationships in an easily accessible form. It will also serve as a learning aid to Cyrillic, with all examples transliterated.

Karl Klein's edition of Timon of Athens introduces Shakespeare's play as a complex exploration of a corrupt, moneyed society. Klein sees the protagonist not as a failed tragic hero, but as a rich and philanthropic nobleman, surrounded by greed and sycophancy, who is forced to recognise the inherent destructiveness of the Athenian society from which he retreats in disgust and rage. Klein establishes Timon as one of Shakespeare's late works, arguing, contrary to recent academic views, that evidence for other authors besides Shakespeare is inconclusive. The edition shows that the play is neither tragedy, satire nor comedy, but a subtle and complete drama whose main characters contain elements of all three genres. This edition was near completion at the time of Karl Klein's death, and was prepared for publication by his colleagues and by Brian Gibbons.

Recent years have seen rapid growth in the numbers of children being taught foreign languages at younger ages. While course books aimed at young learners are appearing on the market, there is scant theoretical reference in the teacher education literature. Teaching Languages to Young Learners is one of the few to develop readers' understanding of what happens in classrooms where children are being taught a foreign language. It will offer teachers and trainers a coherent theoretical framework to structure thinking about children's language learning. It gives practical advice on how to analyse and evaluate classroom activities, language use and language development. Examples from classrooms in Europe and Asia will help bring alive the realities of working with young learners of English.
