The First World War

Examining World War I from a European and world perspective, this text evaluates the causes of the war and the aims, strengths and weaknesses of the major combatants. The war on all fronts is examined in the light of recent research and the experience of the participants is reflected through the primary source materials. The reasons for victory and defeat and the impact of four years of total war are also analyzed.
