Untitled is the only volume of Diane Arbus' work devoted exclusively to a single project. The photographs were taken at residences for the mentally retarded between 1969 and 1971, in the last years of Arbus' life. Although she considered making a book on the subject, the vast majority of these pictures have remained unpublished until now. These photographs achieve a lyricism and an emotional purity that sets them apart from all her other accomplishments: «Finally what I've been searching for,» she wrote at the time. The product of her consistently unflinching regard for reality as she found it, Untitled may well be Arbus' most transcendent, most romantic vision. It is a celebration of the singularity and connectedness of each and every one of us, and demands of us what it demanded of her: the courage to see things as they are and the grace to permit them to simply be. For Diane Arbus, this is what making pictures was all about. Untitled includes an afterword by Doon Arbus, the photographer's daughter, who writes that the intent of these works «wasn't. . . about who or what she saw, but about the experience of seeing it and the power of her photographs to make that experience visible.»

In 1999 the Xunta de Galicia called an International Architecture Competition to build the City of Culture of Galicia on Mount Gaiás in Santiago de Compostela. Twelve proposals by renowned national and international architects' studios were initially submitted to this competition for ideas. The architects who submitted their ideas for defining the architectural complex and its uses were Ricardo Bofill, Peter Eisenman, Manuel Gallego Jorreto, Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer, Steve Holl, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Jean Nouvel, Dominique Perrault, César Portela, and Santiago Calatrava (who later withdrew his project). Out of all these ideas, the final project to be selected for development was the design by Eisenman Architects, as — to quote the Jury — it was, «unique both in concept and plasticity, and exceptionally in tune with the site's location». Located in Santiago de Compostela, a historic city that is an emblem of the European cultural tradition and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985, the City of Culture of Galicia stands on top of Mount Gaiás, a formidable architectural landmark for the new century. Conceived as a large-scale cultural hub devoted to hosting the best of cultural expressions of Galicia, Spain, Europe, Latin America and the World, this new «city» will contribute with its inclusive and pluralistic approach to meeting the challenges of the information and knowledge society. An extensive monograph surveying the career of the Italian designer known as «the architect of fashion.» Gianfranco Ferré (August 15, 1944-June 17, 2007) received a degree in architecture in 1969 at the Politecnico University in Milan. These studies surely contributed to his personal design methodology, one having little in common with traditional systems in use at dress ateliers and clothing factories. This elegant book features a selection of about 250 sketches and technical drawings of Ferré’s models starting from the first sketches made in India in 1973 to the last stylized silhouettes dated 2006, and a sizable section of photographs taken during the fashion shows. The book is published in cooperation with the Fondazione Gianfranco Ferré, whose aim is to preserve, organize and present to the public the wealth of clothes, drawings, photographs, texts, film footage, etc. that document the designer's professional activity.

The nude figure was critical to the art of Edgar Degas throughout his life, and yet his expansive body of work on this subject has been overshadowed by his celebrated portraits and dancers. Degas and the Nude is the first book in a generation to explore the artist's treatment of the nude from his early years in the 1850s and 1860s, through his triumphs in the 1880s and 1890s, all the way to his last decades, when the theme dominated his artistic production in all media. With essays by leading critics, the book aims to provide a new interpretation of Degas' evolving conception of the nude and to situate it in the subject's broader context among his peers in 19th-century France. This book is a revised and enlarged version of the original maquette for Josef Koudelkas book Cikani (Czech for Gypsies), prepared by Koudelka and graphic designer Milan Kopriva in 1968, and intended for publication in Prague in 1970. However, Koudelka left Czechoslovakia in 1970, and the book was never published in that original form. Koudelkas stark images depict the poverty and clannishness of Gypsy life, but he does not present their situation as a social problem that should somehow be fixed. Instead, he shows the Gypsies as perpetual outsiders, and their lives as a primal mix of glee and wonder, sorrow and mystery. This extended version of the seminal 'Gitans, la fin du voyage' consists of 109 photographs taken between 1962 and 1971 in what was Czechoslovakia (Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia), Romania, Hungary, France and Spain. Sociologist Will Guy, author of the text that accompanied the first publication of Gypsies, has contributed an updated essay, tracing the migration of the Roma from their original homeland in northern India, to their current status one that continues to be contested internationally.

Whether they are of Abu Dhabi, California, Egypt or Emilia, all of the images he produces are lit with a constant physical light and sentiment; elements that this photographer seems to always have with him the way he does with his camera bag, and through which all he wants to do is observe the world.
