Deanna Farneti Cera first glimpsed the jewels of Coppola e Toppo in 1987 at an auction house in Milan. Instantly fascinated by their diversity, the evocative power of the colours, the wealth of shapes and motifs and the multitude of materials used, she soon developed an overwhelming passion for the stunning creations. This book, researched over the last twenty years, is the culmination of that passion and a reconstruction of the creative path of Coppola e Toppo, charting their inspiring partnership from their first appearance in «VOGUE» in 1948, through to Lyda's death in 1986.

Czech-born Jacqueline Groag (1903-1985) was an incredibly adept textile designer who trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna during the 1920s under Franz Cisek and Josef Hoffmann. She produced textile designs for the Wiener Werkstatte and some of the Parisian fashion houses while she lived in Vienna. She married the architect and interior designer Jacques Groag — they made a successful team. However, in 1939 they were compelled to emigrate to the UK. Jacqueline Groag continued to produce textile design work for the British market, and after the war her designs could be seen at numerous outlets such as David Whitehead, Grafton, John Lewis and Liberty. For more than 20 years she worked as a freelance designer, supplying designs for carpets, greetings cards, laminates, plastics, textiles, wallpapers and wrapping papers to many firms including Bond-Worth Carpets, British European Airways, the British Overseas Airways Corporation, Dunlop, ICI and London Transport. In 1984 she became a Fellow of the Faculty of Royal Designers for Industry. She was a prodigious and successful designer to the end of her life. Along with Lucienne Day and Marian Mahler she is seen as central to a new and exciting development in textile design in the 1950s. Together their work is featured in a major exhibition Designing Women which begins in Colorado Springs in September 2008. This is a ground breaking publication on the work of this highly important and influential designer.

Kenneth Paul Block is one of the most influential fashion illustrators of the twentieth century. His childhood dream was «to draw glamorous ladies in beautiful clothes» After graduating from Parsons School of Design, his first job was at the powerful Women's Wear Daily in the 1950s, an association that lasted over thirty years and where Kenneth witnessed and recorded one of the most important periods in fashion history-the postwar shift as the exclusive world of couture transformed into prêt-à-porter. Interiors '70 presents a selection of exceptional Italian interiors photographed by Carla De Benedetti between 1965 and 1975. This was particularly rich period of creativity in the field of interior design and its protagonists included Joe Colombo, Carla Venosta, Renzo Mongiardino, Alberto Seassaro, Giorgio Pes, Nanda Vigo, and Gae Aulenti. At the turn of the century, WMF was the worlds largest manufacturer and exporter of household metalware. In 1906 they produced a sumptuous catalogue showing over 3,000 pieces with descriptions in English, which is reprinted here for the first time, with an historical introduction by Graham Dry.

The firm of Tiffany & Co. has long been regarded as America's premier maker and retailer of fine luxury goods. This is especially true in the case of jewellery, an area in which the company emerged as an arbiter of taste and style by the mid-19th century. Charles Lewis Tiffany, one of the founders of the firm, was astutely aware of the desire of newly emerged elites for high-style jewels that would rival those owned by European aristocrats. A savy entrepreneur, Tiffany would eventually purchase part of the French Crown jewels for his American clients, selling them along with outstanding diamonds, precious gem-set jewellery, and Swiss-made watches. All would bear the company's mark and by the end of the 19th century, the brand was firmly established. While Tiffany & Co. lavishly met the luxury needs of America's well-to-do, they also passionately developed an American style, promoting American materials and motifs. Their displays at the International Expositions met with great success, further increasing their reputation in the world-wide market. They were also quick to adapt technological advances, including the raised diamond mount («Tiffany setting»), new diamond-cutting techniques, and a system of hallmarking. Charles Lewis Tiffany's successors in the 20th century continued to create extraordinary adornments designed by outstanding artists such as Louis Comfort Tiffany, Jean Schlumberger, Angela Cummings, Elsa Peretti, and Paloma Picasso. The paintings of Adriaen Coorte form a striking group of works in still-life art of around 1700. At this time there were a few specialised still-life painters active in the Northern Netherlands and whereas his fellow still-life artists displayed a keen interest for profusion and luxuriance, Coorte found his strength in very simple depictions. Today, his work is much sought after among art lovers. In fact, the lack of pretension in his paintings appears to be the deciding factor in his ever-increasing popularity. This lack of pretension is evident from both the simplicity of the subject matter and the usually small size of his paintings. This highly readable publication appears in conjunction with an exhibition about Coorte, a grand 'small master'. As various paintings by him have been traced in recent years, the catalogue contains a complete description of his oeuvre, the first to appear since 1977.
